Fluorite – Singular Deep Forest-Green Masterpiece from Small Pocket
Specifications
Description
An extraordinary and highly important fluorite from the legendary Yaogangxian Mine, representing a singular and short-lived pocket that produced only a handful of specimens in this incomparable deep forest-green hue. The saturation and tonal depth observed here are virtually unseen in fluorite — even among the finest Chinese material. The dominant crystal is a commanding, sharply defined cube of remarkable size and proportion, exhibiting a rich, velvety forest-green core that transitions subtly toward aqua along thinner margins. The color is profound — not merely surface-rich but internally saturated, with light penetrating the crystal to reveal glowing inner depths. This is not the common emerald-green fluorite occasionally encountered; it is darker, moodier, and more concentrated — a tone that appears almost liquid in its density. The luster is exceptional. Broad cubic faces reflect with bright vitreous brilliance, and edges remain crisp and architectural. Fine internal zoning and faint phantom-like growth patterns are visible under strong illumination, adding dimensional complexity without compromising clarity. Beneath and around the principal cube, smaller fluorite crystals in cooler blue to soft violet tones create a striking chromatic contrast. These secondary cubes provide visual layering and reinforce the three-dimensional structure of the specimen. The interplay between the deep forest-green main crystal and the cooler subordinate hues elevates the piece aesthetically and mineralogically. Intergrown quartz crystals emerge from the matrix and partially penetrate the fluorite, creating a dramatic and scientifically fascinating association. The quartz appears to have grown contemporaneously or slightly later, intruding into the fluorite mass and adding a textural counterpoint of prismatic transparency against cubic perfection. The matrix itself provides stable visual grounding without distraction, allowing the main crystal to dominate while still preserving natural context. Yaogangxian is celebrated worldwide for refined fluorite and complex mineral associations, yet this specific deep forest-green coloration was confined to a single pocket that yielded very few examples. Pieces of this intensity and scale are exceedingly rare and are unlikely to be repeated from the locality. For the advanced fluorite collector, this specimen represents a convergence of rarity, color perfection, and architectural presence. It is not simply fine Yaogangxian fluorite — it is a pocket-defining example of a fleeting and extraordinary color event. A masterwork of saturation and structure — bold, luminous, and profoundly uncommon.
