Specifications
Description
Ex. Bob Werner This impressive cabinet-sized hemimorphite specimen hails from the San Antonio Mine, East Camp of the legendary Santa Eulalia Mining District, one of the world’s most revered localities for the species. Santa Eulalia hemimorphite is celebrated for its crystal size, luster, and aesthetic presence, and this specimen exemplifies those classic traits with authority. The piece features dozens of sharply formed, prismatic hemimorphite crystals, predominantly white to colorless and gemmy to translucent, measuring up to 1.1 cm in length. The crystals exhibit bright, vitreous luster and excellent definition, creating a shimmering surface across the specimen. The majority of crystals are intact and well preserved, with only minor, natural contact points visible upon close inspection—entirely consistent with specimens of this scale and vintage. These elegant crystals are attractively set on a rich, contrasting gossan matrix, whose warm earthy tones provide visual depth and enhance the brilliance of the hemimorphite. The overall presentation is balanced and visually satisfying, making the specimen equally suitable for prominent cabinet display or inclusion in a focused Santa Eulalia or hemimorphite reference collection. The specimen carries distinguished provenance from the collection of Robert “Bob” W. Werner (1937–2023) of Pioche, Nevada—an accomplished field collector, dealer, author, and lifelong mineral enthusiast. Bob’s deep geological background, rigorous standards, and decades of experience are reflected in the consistent quality of material he preserved. His collection, developed over a lifetime and influenced by his father Herbert W. Werner of Western Minerals, is widely respected for its breadth, integrity, and educational value. At 14.3 × 10.1 × 8.3 cm, this is a substantial, classic example of Santa Eulalia hemimorphite, combining locality significance, crystal quality, cabinet presence, and notable provenance—an enduring and desirable specimen for the advanced collector.
