Jeremejevite Large Crystal

From Erongo Mountain, Usakos & Omaruru District, Namibia

4.5 X 1.3 X .8 cm

Jeremejevite is a very rare aluminum borate species which is found at a handful of localities around the world, including Russia and Namibia. Traditionally, the finest jeremejevite crystals come from the Mile Marker 72 locality near Cape Cross, Namibia. Starting in the 1970’s, fine gem-quality crystals of jeremejevite, initially mistaken for aquamarine, were found in weathered pegmatites at this remote oceanside locality. Later, after this deposit was exhausted, sporadic finds of high-quality jeremejevite were made in the Erongo Mountain region of Namibia. The best crystals from this locality, such as this example, rival and perhaps even surpass the Mile Marker 72 finds, and illustrate why this mineral is one of the world’s most sought-after rare collector gemstones. This *nearly 5 cm* crystal is gemmy throughout and has good luster. Exhibits fantastic pleochroism. A superb example of a very rare gem mineral in uncommon size and quality. Ex.
