Fluorite – Large Gemmy Pale Blue-Lavender Cubic Crystal with Phantom Zoning
Specifications
Description
A commanding and highly distinctive fluorite specimen dominated by an unusually large cubic crystal, measuring an impressive 7 cm across—placing it firmly within the upper echelon of Yaogangxian fluorite in terms of scale and presence. The crystal rises prominently from a supporting matrix of smaller fluorite cubes, accompanied by minor associated sulfides, likely pyrite, adding subtle contrast and complexity. What immediately sets this piece apart is its refined and uncommon coloration: a delicate, pale blue infused with soft lavender-violet zoning concentrated toward the edges and corners. This subtle chromatic interplay gives the crystal an ethereal, almost atmospheric quality, distinct from the more saturated or zoned fluorites typically encountered from the locality. Equally compelling is the crystal’s notable clarity. Despite its substantial size, the fluorite maintains a high degree of internal transparency, allowing light to penetrate and softly diffuse through its volume. Gentle internal veils and faint phantoms are visible, adding depth without detracting from the overall purity. The faces exhibit a smooth, slightly satiny luster, with natural growth textures and minor surface features consistent with large, well-developed cubes. The geometry is bold and architectural—a near-perfect cube with strong edges and planar faces, perched in a balanced and visually engaging position atop the matrix. Smaller intergrown cubes at the base echo the primary form, reinforcing the specimen’s symmetry and aesthetic cohesion. Large, pale-toned fluorites from Yaogangxian with this combination of size, clarity, and nuanced coloration are distinctly uncommon. This specimen stands out as a sophisticated and quietly powerful example—valued not for overt saturation, but for its scale, elegance, and refined visual character.
