An exceptionally sculptural and unusual Quartz with Calcite from a one-time April 2026 discovery at Qingyuan, Guangdong, distinguished by remarkable symmetry, dramatic skeletal etching, and an almost improbably balanced natural architecture. The immediate attraction is the specimen's extraordinary geometry. Two tapering, bone-white Quartz formations flare outward in opposing directions from a central cleft, producing an unmistakable arrowhead or wing-like silhouette. The near-bilateral arrangement gives the piece an unusually deliberate appearance—as though the composition had been designed rather than crystallized naturally. At the very center sits a prominent grouping of warm straw-colored Calcite rhombs, perfectly positioned between the two Quartz "wings." Their placement is particularly effective aesthetically: the compact golden-beige Calcite cluster acts almost as a jewel-like centerpiece, providing both color and textural contrast while visually locking the composition together. Closer examination reveals the specimen's most fascinating mineralogical feature. Corrosive late-stage pocket solutions selectively attacked portions of the Quartz, etching deeply into the crystal caps and partially hollowing their interiors. What remains is delicate skeletal architecture tracing the original growth geometry, including striking star-like forms within the etched Quartz. These structures give the specimen considerably more complexity than an ordinary Quartz cluster—the viewer can effectively read portions of the crystal's former growth framework through what erosion has left behind. The contrasting surface textures are excellent. The etched Quartz possesses a pale, matte-to-sugary appearance with intricate recesses and skeletal edges, while the later Calcite remained protected within the central cleft and escaped much of the corrosive event. Consequently, the Calcite preserves a bright, glassy vitreous luster, standing out dramatically against the softer bone-white Quartz. The specimen becomes still more interesting under ultraviolet illumination. Different Calcite generations reportedly produce a pronounced dual UV response, fluorescing vivid electric red under short-wave UV and rich honey-yellow under long-wave UV. This adds an entirely separate dimension to an already visually unusual daylight specimen. The association itself is noteworthy. Material from this one-time April 2026 find was apparently dominated by loose Quartz crystals and clusters, with relatively few specimens retaining Calcite associations. Examples combining Calcite with such strongly etched, sculptural Quartz are therefore among the more desirable expressions of the pocket and have commanded a substantial premium within the Chinese market. At just 5.4 cm, this is an unusually effective miniature: compact enough for the category yet possessing the architecture and visual presence of a considerably larger specimen. Its combination of near-symmetrical wing-like form, skeletal star-pattern etching, contrasting glassy Calcite, multiple mineral generations, and dual fluorescence makes it an especially distinctive example of modern Chinese Quartz mineralogy. A highly memorable Qingyuan specimen whose appeal lies not simply in crystal quality, but in the extraordinary sequence of growth, secondary Calcite deposition, selective dissolution, and preservation recorded in a remarkably aesthetic natural composition.
