Vivianite - Exceptional Clarity and Color
Specifications
Description
This is a striking and richly textured Vivianite on Siderite specimen, presenting a dramatic interplay of deep green translucency against earthy metallic matrix. The vivianite crystals rise in a clustered fan from the matrix, displaying elongated prismatic forms with pronounced vertical striations. Their coloration is particularly captivating—an intense forest to blue-green tone, with darker saturation along the crystal cores and edges. The terminations are sharp and glassy, showing a fine vitreous luster that contrasts beautifully with the more matte, granular surroundings. Some crystals exhibit slight zoning, with subtle tonal variation that deepens toward the tips, a hallmark of well-developed vivianite. The siderite matrix forms a rugged, botryoidal to granular mass in warm olive-brown tones. Its surface is coated with fine microcrystalline sparkle, adding texture and depth without distracting from the vivianite’s prominence. The matrix partially envelops the crystal bases, giving the impression that the vivianite erupted organically from the iron-rich host. The overall composition is compact yet dynamic—crystals radiating outward at slightly varied angles, creating a sculptural, three-dimensional presence. The aesthetic balance between the dark, lustrous vivianite blades and the earthy siderite foundation is particularly successful, making this an engaging and visually powerful cabinet specimen. A classic and highly desirable association, showcasing vivianite in its most dramatic and photogenic form.
